Persuasion and Influence for Project Managers

An essential course for Project Managers

A Project Manager (PM) has little or no control over the people that make up their project team as they operate within a matrix management environment. The PM has to deliver the project on time, within budget, and with all the required features. Unless the PM can gain the full commitment of each member of the project team it is likely that someone will fail to deliver. This course is designed to enable delegates to learn the skills required to use Influence and Persuasion to gain that commitment. It also provides a chance for delegates to understand their behaviour in a meeting where they need to gain consensus. Video is used to reinforce the message. Each stage of the learning process is supported by exercises.

Maximum number of delegates is 6 with one trainer, or 12 with 2 trainers.

The course is 2 days. Ideally the days should run concurrently, however it is possible to split the days over two weeks.

This module covers:

  • Communicating to foster collaboration
  • Questioning to persuade
  • Gaining a better perspective of others to build relationships
  • Managing disagreements, potential conflicts, and surfacing issues
  • Building influential relationships, contacts and networks
  • Influencing skills and strategies
  • The relationship between power and influence
